Morton East Strives to Meet 95% Participation Goal with This Year’s 5Essentials Survey
Each year, students, teachers, and parents participate in the 5Essentials Survey, a statewide tool designed to measure school climate and guide improvement efforts.
The survey evaluates five key areas that help predict school success and shape plans to improve attendance, test scores, and the overall learning environment. Each year, students, teachers, and parents take part in the 5Essentials Survey to help schools improve the learning environment and academic achievement. It measures the five pillars for school improvement.
The purpose is to predict school success, improve student attendance, increase test scores, and guide school improvement plans. In 2025, over 93% of eligible Illinois schools qualified for the 5Essentials Survey, which requires at least 50% participation. Morton East High School’s response rates for 2025 were 97.1% for students, 54.4% for teachers, and 22.8% for parents.
“There are two main things about the 5Essentials Survey. The state makes us do it, just like any other exam. It’s a mandatory test given by the state. They run a good-quality survey. Every school in the state has to take it, and it’s the same questions. In Morton, 20% of parents have to complete the survey and 95% of students have to complete the survey. The results are given in the summer, and based on those results, we improve,” said Principal Jose Gamboa.
The 5Essentials Survey helps schools collect feedback from students, parents, and teachers.
“The school administration really follows up to make sure students are completing the survey. We get daily emails of those students who haven’t done it yet,” said English teacher Kent Frankfother.

I agree with this article because the 5essential survey does help the school better the equipment and the tools students have or can use. This matters because it shows that the school cares about the students they have and wanna help them succeed. A personal experience I have is that when taking the survey they ask may questions about you and how you feel about the school, teachers, and the peers around you.

I agree whit this article because this test does matter and it helps students learn new things and better their grade. This is important because when taking a test every student should answer it correctly and honestly. For example, I found out that the test helps the students understand the rules the school got, also for the teachers to know what they need to do better or help students with their problems.

I disagree with this article because alot of percentage of the students really only rush through it and this would lead to no type of info given to the school. This is important because the school can get one piece of info but in reality none of it is true its really just guesses frm students i found that most kids in my class when we were doing it just guessed and did not pay attention to the answers.
