Half of students feel that school causes stress.
In a quick, random survey of 10 Morton East High School students, five said yes—school causes them stress, while five said it does not. According to Google’s AI Overview, school stress is often caused by a combination of high academic demands, a heavy workload, and pressure to succeed. Creating structured schedules and prioritizing tasks can help reduce the feeling of being overwhelmed.
“Teachers give too much homework every day, and they don’t really give much time to get everything turned in on time. When a student doesn’t listen, they start to get angry at the whole class. Teachers also have favoritism—even if they don’t show it, I see it,” sophomore Iliana Vazquez Segura said.
Teachers say that school shouldn’t cause stress but should help prepare students for success later in life. If students are feeling stressed, Morton East has support available.
“We have great social workers and counselors to keep you motivated,” special education teacher Anthony Asay said.
