Senior Emily Ramirez checks in with Ms. Martha at the counseling office front desk in Office 212 to schedule a meeting with her counselor. According to an article titled More Students Have Access to School Counselors, Data Shows, the national high school ratio of 195 to 224 students per counselor now meets the American School Counselor Association recommendation for the first time. Research shows that lower student-to-counselor ratios are linked to higher standardized test scores, better attendance, improved GPAs, and increased graduation rates. Lower ratios are also associated with fewer disciplinary actions and a greater likelihood that students will speak with counselors about college and other postsecondary plans.
