Students check their phones a lot—too much, in fact.
In a quick survey of 10 students at Morton East, all 10 said they check their phones too much at school. According to an AI overview, 50.4% of teens ages 12–17 have more than four hours of daily non-school screen time, and 47% of teens admit to “constant, addictive checking behavior.”
“It’s because people watch social media or other content to distract themselves when they get bored,” said Julia Serrano.
This shows that when students get bored, they often turn to social media or content for distraction.
Now we have heard from a student. Next, here is what a teacher thinks.
“It’s students’ go-to activity. They don’t feel boredom because of social media,” said EL teacher Ms. Liza Garrido.
Overall, social media helps explain why students check their phones so often at school.

I agree with the article because students really get distracted with their phones instead of doing their work. This one of the main causes of lower grades in class.

I agree as a student I do check my phone a lot. Social media becomes very interesting especially at school. But I would say I still get my work done.
