A Morton East student will be showcasing his artistic talent this weekend in a live competition in Chicago.
Charlie Sanchez is set to compete in a Figure Drawing Throwdown this Sunday from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at the Bridgeport Art Center. The event will feature hundreds of high school students drawing a live model for 90 minutes in front of an audience.
“This is a live figure drawing competition where hundreds of high school students will sit drawing a live model for 90 minutes in front of an audience,” said art teacher Ms. Lisa Dure.
Unlike many traditional competitions, the results will be influenced by public engagement through social media voting following the event.
“As with many of these competitions, votes come from social media,” Dure explained.
Sanchez, who is described as shy, is just beginning to build his social media presence, making community support especially important.
“Charlie currently has 9 followers on IG…but if we could help him out with some more follows and check in on him Sunday around 3:00 PM to vote for his figure drawing, we appreciate your help,” Dure said.
Supporters can follow Charlie on Instagram at @locomotiveboy1 and on X at @locomotiveBoy, and are encouraged to check in after the competition to vote and show their support.
