Student ambassadors give Morton East’s first impressions to new arrivals here.
The student ambassador club greets new students and meets when special events are going to happen. The group has approximately 45 members in this club. The purpose of this club is to help with events and give tours to new students who come to Morton East.
Whenever there is a new arrival to Morton East, a student ambassador takes the new student on a tour of the school and helps them become acclimated to the school environment and policies. Student ambassadors help out at special events as well. A recent event that just happened was the December 11 posada. Student ambassadors were at a table passing out candy for those who attended the event. They also helped decorate the cafeteria for the posada.
“Being a student ambassador, you get to meet new people, help out your counselor and new students, and you earn a graduation cord for graduation,” said senior student Yesenia Rojo Mejia.
One of the ways the club stays active in the school community is by participating in various cultural and social events. Most recently, they played an important role in helping the annual posada.
“Student Ambassadors are important because they are really the first student impression of Morton East that a new student at school gets. Often times, it can be an overwhelming experience for new students; student ambassadors act more like friends than adult tour guides would,” said English teacher Kent Frankfother.
