Most Morton East students eat school lunch.
According to the School Nutrition Association, the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) assisted meal program serves nutritious, low-cost or free lunches to about 30 million children daily. Since 1946 its reduced food insecurity and improve student health with meals meeting USDA standards, offering healthier lunch options.
According to LA NACION, the program aims to reduce childhood obesity and improve public health by providing fresh food in schools. It also teaches students about healthy eating and where food comes from helping them make better choices.
According to the food service and human nutrition from Urbana Champaign, Children have better health by eating free school meals than eating food from home. Children who eat meals or snacks from home are not as healthy due to picking snacks without much nutrition. Children who also eat school meals are less likely to being admitted to a hospital from those food or snack.
In a random survey, 8 out of 10 students said they eat school provided meals.
A student was then asked the question ‘What do you think about the school lunch?’

Staff members on the other hand, believe that students should eat school provided meals especially since it benefits their health as they are maturing.
“Nutrition at school is very important. You need the necessary vitamins in the body. It affects you later on in life. It fuels your body to give you the necessary energy to keep going. Exercise and movement along with those meals is also important,” said staff member security V.
