In a student survey conducted by the Morton Pony Express News, the Spicy Chicken Sandwich was named Best School Lunch Item of 2025.

In a random survey of 89 Morton East students, 29 said the winner stood out because it’s a commonly known food item outside of school.

“My favorite school lunch item is also the spicy chicken sandwich because it’s flavorful and reliable,” said Alexander Velarde, a sophomore.

“Personally, I like the spicy chicken sandwich because it has good flavor and overall is a good sandwich,” said Adrian Jimenez, a junior.

While the spicy chicken sandwich earned 1st place, the cookies finished 2nd in the survey.

“I think the cookies are the best school lunch item because they are always fresh and soft,” said Jordan Maldonado, a senior.

However, a few students felt that another choice deserved more recognition.

“The spicy chicken sandwich is mid and bland; however, my favorite lunch item is the chicken strips and mac and cheese because of the creamy taste of the cheese,” said Jonathan Oliver, a sophomore.

Other notable mentions also received votes in the poll.

“I feel like there’s better options than the spicy chicken sandwich, like the walking taco or the salad because you can choose your preferred toppings,” said Hector Esquivel, a senior.
