Valentine’s Day is a day that people usually spend with romantic partners, but a recent survey of Morton East students shows a wider range of plans. While some students plan to spend the day with a partner, others said they will celebrate with family, friends, or spend the day alone.
We surveyed Morton students to find out who they plan to spend Valentine’s Day with. The results showed a variety of choices. According to a Google AI Overview, Valentine’s Day usually focuses on romantic partners, but in 2025, 43.3% of people plan to celebrate with family, friends, or pets. Of the 100 Morton East students surveyed, 17% said they would spend the day with family, 20% with friends, 29% said they would be alone, and 34% said they would spend the day with a partner.
We asked Morton senior Antonio Tobar if he has been asked for Valentine’s Day, and he said yes.
“Yes, to celebrate I’m going out to eat in a fancy restaurant with my girlfriend,” senior Antonio Tobar said.
On the other hand, other students have different plans. For example, we asked Morton senior Javier Mendoza if he’s going out for Valentine’s Day.
“I’m going to be spending Valentine’s Day alone watching my favorite movies at home,” senior Javier Mendoza said.
We also asked staff member Anthony Asay how he spent his first Valentine’s Day, and he told us this story.
“I was in kindergarten, and back in the day we would get a card and some candy for Valentine’s Day from other students,” Anthony Asay said.

I feel as though many other people, including myself, would prefer to spend Valentine’s Day getting your favorite snacks, movies, do something that makes you happy, or family and pets that make you happy.
