Senior thoughts on ID prices

Senior+thoughts+on+ID+prices

In a recent survey of 100 Morton East students, nearly half of them had to purchase either a temporary or a replacement ID.

We spoke with seniors to get their opinions on the ID prices at Morton East High School, which enforces a mandatory ID policy, requiring students to wear their IDs at all times. Non-compliance results in students being responsible for purchasing a new or temporary ID, aligning with the school’s uniform guidelines where students are expected to cover the cost of these IDs.

Moreover, after receiving two temporary IDs, students are required to obtain a replacement ID for $10. Out of the 100 surveyed students, 47 had either purchased or used a temporary ID.

Senior David Basulto expressed his view on the matter, saying, “I believe that paying for temporary IDs seems a bit unnecessary. Although it may be the student’s fault for forgetting their ID, they should still be able to obtain a temporary ID for free. On the other hand, I think $8 is a more reasonable price for a school ID. My first time having to get a temporary ID, I was charged $5, and I wasn’t very happy with that. I’m pretty sure other students feel the same way.”

Senior David Basulto had an unpleasant experience with the cost of his temporary IDs, similar to another senior at Morton, Nathan Lopez. Nathan Lopez shared, “I found it a little absurd that the school charged $5 for a temporary ID, especially for a genuine mistake or forgetfulness. Not everyone has $5 readily available. However, I do appreciate the change to make them free this year.”

Nathan Lopez highlighted that not everyone has $5 on hand, especially if they realize they don’t have their ID at the last moment while entering the building.

Senior Ab Perez added, “The school has its reasons for having IDs, but it doesn’t seem fair to charge $5 for a temporary ID if you accidentally forget your ID. At the end of the day, it’s a $5 sticker, and there shouldn’t be a price to pay for being human.”

“The school has they’re own reason for having ID’s but it’s not fair for other or even a fair price for a $5 temp if you accidentally forget your ID at the end of the day it’s a $5 sticker and their joint be a price to pay for being human.” Senior Ab Perez
