Morton Bass fishing team has started a new season.
The Morton Bass Fishing team’s head coach is Morton East physical education teacher Miguel Romero. Did you know that in 2013, Morton East won the IHSA Bass Fishing State Championship? The title was won by Jordan Jensen and Justin Schick. In a random survey of 105 people, only a few students knew about the school fishing team, even though the majority of the Morton community has gone fishing before.
“I’ve heard of the bass fishing team and thought it sounded cool, but I was never able to find out where to sign up,” said sophomore Sebastian Gonzalez.
Did you know the bass fishing team earned 4th place at the 2024 Sectional Bass Tournament, qualifying as an alternate for the state tournament?
“I didn’t know we even had a fishing team; I wish they would advertise it more,” said sophomore Isabelle Sanchez.
Fishing doesn’t seem like it would be a good sport, but Morton proved me wrong.
“I like fishing, so it’s good to know that there’s a team I can join if I ever want to fish more,” said Jesus Vega.
