Netflix favored as best streaming service
February 2, 2021
Amongst other streaming services, Netflix won favorite streaming service by Morton students and Cicero residents.
According to comparitech.com, the COVID-19 pandemic had most of the population remain indoors for months. Business sales decreased, as a result, affecting most businesses except for the streaming services. Streaming sales increased drastically where the company Netflix, “added almost 16 million subscribers during the first three months of 2020.” Prior to this, streaming services were new innovations where Netflix was one main notable service, as multiple new streaming companies joined the new generation of entertainment. Over time, these services surged in popularity and became a new norm for the world amidst the pandemic. In a random survey conducted on Morton East students and Cicero residents, 27% choose Netflix as the most favorable streaming service.
“I watched a lot of Netflix with my roommates. I re-watched Glee in about two weeks back in March and all five seasons of Queer Eye in August,” Said teacher Ms. Lowther.
On the other hand, Hulu earned its spot in second place with 26% of votes.
Hulu is another well-known streaming service aside from Netflix being a major service used. Market.us says Hulu has a variety of features since the service, “provides online television streaming services and allows users to access TV shows and clips, movies, including trailers and documentaries, and programs for kids.”
Although not the least, Disney + concluded its spot for third place with 22% of votes.
Disney + is a new streaming service introduced to the public on November 12, 2019, by the Disney Platform Distribution owned by the Walt Disney Company. According to Statista.com, Disney + earned an audience growth of 43.75% around February to March of 2020.
“I am personally a Disney fan and Disney plus is perfect for rewatching all my favorite childhood movies,” college student Marcella Contreras said.
HBO Max, however, ended up in 4th place with the few votes of 7%
HBO Max is a streaming service that gives consumers access to all things HBO as well as other media. The service was newly introduced on May 27, 2020, although digital trends.com mentions how HBO Max, “costs $15 a month, which makes it more expensive than other streaming packages.”
“In all honesty, I like all platforms. They all serve different entertainments. You can watch childhood movies with Disney. HBO Max has movies you wouldn’t be able to find in Netflix or Amazon and vice versa. With HBO Max you can watch the latest movies and well it seems like a good deal,” junior student Cristal Santiago explained.
Tying in last place alongside HBO max, there were 7% of voters who had select streaming services.
Flixtor, Crunchyroll, and YouTube TV were services mentioned by three poll respondents.

DALY- this article was well written, it provided facts like percentages and i also have to agree that Netflix is popular due to Covid-19. i get to re-watch some of my favorite shows along with watching other movies or shows i never knew of. BELMARES: I do agree with the argument of Netflix being the best streaming service. First of all, its movement and its access to the app has more fluidity than Hulu and Disney+. Sometimes I can’t access Disney+ and Hulu has some framerate issues. In addition, Netflix has more variety of tv shows and all my favorite tv shows are on it. Therefore, I will choose Netflix as the best streaming service.

BELMARES, I own a Netflix account but I do not usually watch anything on it, I just don’t have time or would rather watch YouTube instead and that’s just based on me.

Belmares- I found this article to be very informative and interesting. I find it very interesting how close Netflix and Hulu were for the number one spot. Surprising me since I always thought Netflix was the most popular and reliable by far. Even tough I have both currently, I have always spent more time on Netflix than Hulu. The reason being that I find the shows and movies in Netflix more interesting personally, rarely using Hulu. Only using Hulu for specific shows or movies in a rare occasion.

I totally agree with this topic, It is 100% true for most people . I would choose and watch Netflix more than any other streaming services and I can see how other students my age would relate, mostly right now that we are in a pandemic and having to stay at home. Loved your article!

I definitely also did get to re watch all my favorite childhood shows during quarantine. My sister ended up getting hulu, so I was able to get into new shows on there and watch a variety of different new animes as well! I’m not gonna lie, I spent almost half of this pandemic staying home and binge watching movies, tv shows, and animes.

Belmares – I think this article did a good job on showing and explaining all the good streaming services you can use to entertain yourself during this pandemic.

BELMARES, I have all 3 streaming platforms such as Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+. My favorite is Netflix as well because its super easy to use and there is no ads. But Hulu on the other hand is still a very good platform but there is still ads which don’t make it as enjoyable as Netflix. Disney+ is also really good but i mostly use Netflix or Hulu.

BELMARES- I honestly can’t pick between Netflix because of its big selection with Netflix originals like Cobra Kai or disney + because of shows like the Mandolorian and new Marvel shows like Wanda Vision. I like how well written the article was and how you quoted students and sources. Good job.

Netflix has a variety of shows and they keep coming out with new ones. I’d also say Netflix is the best streaming service followed closely by Hulu.
Anasofia Martinez (BELMARES) • Feb 9, 2021 at 8:45 am
I have to agree that indeed i watched netflix most of the time. I watched and rewatched shows that had about 5-8 seasons to them in 1 week or so. I liked how the reporter added the different platforms that were also used a lot during the lockdown.

I am not surprised that Netflix and these other streaming services gained new subscribers. The pandemic did hit hard and people didn’t have much to do but stay home mostly. I like how everything is structured and streaming services were put in order on how many gained more subscribers. I also like how other opinions were included in the articles for some streaming services.

Belmares. I personally like Netflix the most out of all of the streaming platforms. Because it is more interesting and to me has more options than some of the other streaming platforms.
