Students and teachers debate value versus stress when it comes to homework.
According to a national survey, 71% of U.S. adults agree that homework is an important part of the learning process, and an AI overview states that 77% of students believe homework is important and helps them a lot, while a similarly high number of 74% believe it’s stressful, which ranks below concerns about grades. In a random quick survey of ten Morton East students, eight students stated that homework helps them learn, and two students said no, it doesn’t help them.
“Homework is helpful if the learning material is hard. It should be required since some students forget what they learn,” said senior Olivia Nieves.
Teachers say that, depending on what classes you’re in, teachers shouldn’t require so much homework since it stresses some students and should really depend on how hard the classes are that would require more studying.
“No, I don’t think homework should be required except for AP classes. You need some type of additional assignment, like vocabulary,” said Brenda Lopez, Civics teacher.

I think homework isn’t necessary and just takes up more of your time, I’ll say for myself I don’t like having homework because it isn’t helpful.
