The Otaku club is misunderstood.
The otaku club meets on Tuesday at the second-floor knowledge center. The group has 70 members. The purpose of the group is “to provide a fun and safe place for students to indulge in their fun and dork interests, Mr. Moore.” Last year, the club went to Comicon. This year, they went to Mizu Market. According to general research, one interesting fact about high school otaku club is that it’s the easiest club you can be in, and you don’t even have to attend all the dates.
“Our name is an anime name, but we do things that are not anime related like Comic Con, video games and tournaments, and movie nights. We’re in a generally great place to hang out with friends after school,” said sponsor Nathaniel Moore.
The sponsor is right and goes to show how the club is misunderstood. There are other members who got great experiences in the club and found a better understanding of the otaku club.
“It gives people a chance for nerds and weirdos, not worrying about anything since otaku is their safe space,” said club president junior Geraldi Alvarez.
Even the people who are like that can agree.
“It’s a lot of fun for me because I’m a dork too and we share a lot of the same interests,” said sponsor Nathaniel Moore.
This just shows what the otaku club can be for any student, and some students just like it for the extra time you can have at school.
“What I like about the club is that it gives me an opportunity to take a breather or catch up on some work. It’s a good combination of leisure and learning,” said attendee senior Adrian Sanchez.
Without a doubt, the free time you have can give you a chance to meet others.
“I met a lot of friends at Otaku club,” said attendee junior Eder Torres.
Along with that, students joined this club just to spend time with friends that are in the club.
“Why I joined? Just to hang around with friends and just chill out,” said vice president junior Richard Sato.
Some students joined the club like that and then found inspiration on what they can do to make it better.
“I originally joined with my friends in freshman year and soon I joined the club here and volunteered as president, hoping to make it fun for my fellow friends,” said club president junior Geraldi Alvarez.
