Andrew Heredia, a bowler from Morton East High School’s varsity team, recently made history by getting a perfect score of 300 points in a match against Fenton.

The Morton Boys Bowling Team meets every day from 4:00–5:30 p.m. at Town Hall Bowl. The team has approximately 20 members across all levels. The purpose/mission of the club is to become a better team and become better individuals to prove that the bowlers are doing as much as they can to be the best bowlers. Last year, Morton West varsity bowler Desmond Zuro made it to the State Championship and placed in the top 20! Currently, the Morton varsity team is undefeated with a record of 3-0 and a record of 6-0 across all levels and has won multiple tournaments. According to Google AI Overview, bowling is one of the few high school sports where male and female athletes often compete on an equal playing field, with skill and technique being more important than size and strength.
“All levels are currently undefeated; the first two tournaments resulted in a championship for both JV and varsity. It was great to celebrate that special moment together. In addition, for the first time in program history, Andrew Heredia threw a 300, and the next thing you know, Desmond Zuro throws a 300 the following week,” said coach Paterkiewicz.
In addition to the adviser’s perspective, members also shared their experiences and opinions.
“Bowling is fun, regardless of what people think. We all have close friendships on the team and try to make it as enjoyable as possible for everyone,” said senior varsity bowler Diego Barajas.
Diego also shared a memorable moment.
“Making it to state last year has been my favorite memory while on the team since we were the first team to make it to state for boys bowling, and it made me really proud since I got to be a part of that special moment,” said Diego Barajas.
