The Improv club is trying to recruit more students this year.
The Improv club meets every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month in room 223 from 3:10–4:00 pm. The purpose/mission of the Improv class is to teach students to not rely on scripts like any theater would and to use their skills to do/play unscripted performances. This year their goal is to gather more students; not many students have joined the improv comedy club yet. There is one active member (with the energy and ambition of 10) . Another goal they have for this year is to complete their roster to put on their first improv comedy show in the Morton East Auditorium.
“Improv comedy is the art of unscripted performances. Instead of relying on scripts as in traditional theater, improvisers create scenes based on loose ideas and associations. The club develops improv skills, including taking risks, saying “yes and,” developing characteristics, and scene work,” said advisor Anthony Camacho.
A student involved in the improv comedy club shared what this club means to them and why they joined.
“I enjoy the club (if people will show up) because I want to learn how to tell jokes that aren’t inappropriate. I joined because I want to make people laugh. Those people may be right but we haven’t gotten enough people to start, and what I say, you won’t know unless you come to improv,” said sophomore student Antonio Fabelo Gonzalez.
