Halloween school events are fun and educational ways for students to celebrate the holiday while fostering a sense of community and school spirit. Morton East includes different ways to show the spooky spirit through different clubs, classes, or events that the school holds to include everyone. For example, the language classes decorating the 3rd floor for the Day of the Dead, or the Pumpkin Contest being held at the library. Everyone is welcome to join in different activities. Enjoy the school spirit this spooky season and join some spooky activities. In a survey conducted at Morton East, 21 students have participated in a Halloween school event before while 29 students haven’t.

“The modern language department every year puts a display for Día de los Muertos, in which they are celebrating our deceased ones so it’s a way to honor them. So, each class does something different. We are going to have the displays here out on the hallway on the 3rd floor and in the knowledge center where people can go and see all the different things that we have and different ways we honor our past ones,” said Spanish teacher, Senorita Juarez.

Students decorated the hallway with paper flowers, skulls, and Papel Picado to celebrate the Day of the Dead. While the 2nd floor library has been decorated with pumpkins for Halloween.

“The literary pumpkin decorating contest, we have foam pumpkins and canvas, in case you want to use that as your pumpkin, and you just must have it somewhat themed to a book or movie. It can be the setting, the characters, it can be the plot, or it can be whatever you want it to be, just somehow linked to a book. So, we supplied foam pumpkins and canvases and entries are going to be due October 25 and we’ll have admin, teachers in here judging, October 27 and we’ll announce the winner right before Halloween,” Dr. Therriault said.

Students are excited for the spooky holidays as they can involve topics that they feel are important.

“Each different Spanish class has its own activity, and my class which is AP Spanish, we are making giant drawings of skulls. In which we’re drawing on problems within the world. So, decided to draw about the problem with drugs,” said senior Alex Taboada.

The school has a handful of events for October and the beginning of November. S.H.A.R.K. club is hosting a scary movie at the auditorium as they will show The Quiet Place on the big screen. Dreamers and Allies plan to take a few of their students to the Freshman Center to celebrate the Day of the Dead festivities. So don’t be scared by all the scary monsters and let’s make this fall season, a Spooktacular one!

Frank Father. One thing I liked is the picture you added it was very colorful and I loved that. Another thing I liked about your article is You added allot of back ground information. Maybe something you could of changed made it a little more clean like made some paragraphs shorter.
