The Halloween we know has history attached to it

The+Halloween+we+know+has+history+attached+to+it

So, why do we wear costumes on Halloween anyway?

But, first we need to know the background of Halloween costumes according to chatGPT:  “The tradition of wearing costumes on Halloween has ancient origins and is closely linked to the Celtic festival of Samhain. Samhain, which was celebrated around October 31, marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter in Celtic regions, including what is now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and parts of France.  The Celts believed that on the night of Samhain, the boundary between the living and the spirit world became blurred. They believed that the spirits of the dead, as well as other supernatural entities, would come back to Earth during this time. To protect themselves from these wandering spirits and to blend in with them, people would wear costumes and masks”.

“In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as Irish and Scottish immigrants brought their Halloween traditions to North America, the practice of wearing costumes on Halloween became more widespread. Over time, it transformed into the Halloween we know today, with costumes ranging from spooky and scary to creative and fun”

“Halloween has many good options, but for me costumes are more important because there are so many options for costumes. You could dress up as your favorite superhero or videogame character plus the amount of detail that you can put in to make it look cool,” senior Jorge Hernandez said.

What has been your favorite costume over the years?  It’s funny how trends come around again.

“Back in my day, my favorite costume was wearing a Barbie costume,” parent Juanita Hernandez said.

Barbie is expected to be a popular costume this year because of the Barbie movie.  And, superheroes have also been historical favorites.

“My favorite costume is the Flash,” senior Carlos Quintero said.

Even ghosts remain in vogue.

“One of my favorite ones is Ghost Face (from Scream),” senior Israel Angeles said.

So, how much would you spend on a costume?

“It depends, but I wouldn’t go higher than $30,” senior Carlos Quintero said.
