Most Morton East students have finished their college applications.
According to ChatGPT, Morton East has many academic resources and opportunities. Morton has a college and career center that focuses on helping students prepare for after high school. The college and career center offers help with filling out things like college applications and financial aid. Some students may be eligible for free lunch, which can help during the application process as the free lunch form allows students to send applications with no fee. Morton also offers a variety of Advanced Placement (AP) and dual enrollment courses. In the past years, Morton East and the district were recognized for expanding access to AP courses and nearly doubling enrollment in AP classes and increasing the number of students earning a passing score on AP exams. In a random survey of 100 Morton East seniors, about 39% of seniors said that they have finished their college applications.
“I applied to 3 schools. I have applied to Loyola, Saint Xavier, and Northeastern. For some of them, I had to write and include a personal essay into the application, and some of them did not need a personal essay but instead had question prompts. My personal essay for one of the schools was about my beliefs and religion since one of the schools was a religious school. I did my application alone; it was a little hard to do, but I was able to finish them by myself. I plan on applying to a few more schools, one of them being DePaul,” said senior, Daniel Barrera.
While some students filled out applications on their own, others had support with their application.
“I plan on going to college after high school, and I have already applied. I applied to Morton College, and I plan on attending to learn HVAC. It was an easy process to apply; I had my brother help me with the process since he had already done the application for Morton College, so it wasn’t as hard. As of right now, I don’t plan on applying to any other schools, just Morton College was the only one I planned on applying to,” said senior, Daniel Ortiz.
While some students know what school they want to go to, some students are still researching.
“I am going to trade school to get my electrician business and residential license. As of right now, I have not applied to any schools or programs; all I know is that I want to be an electrician. My dad and my brother are electricians, so I want to sort of follow their footsteps. I still need to do some research on different schools and programs and pick the best one for me,” said senior, Saul Cardenas.
While some students have not applied to programs, others have already finished applying.
“After high school I plan to become either an electrician or a plumber. I applied to CISCO Building Future Expo; it was a really easy process. I was able to apply by myself with no help,” said senior, Nery Cardoso.
Most students found applications fairly easy to finish.
“I’m choosing between schools, but I want to go with Loyola. Yes, I started my application. I’m not on a scholarship, but I have been offered them from schools. For my essay topic, I decided to write about how my mom helped me throughout my life. The FAFSA application was an easy process for me; it took me about an hour,” said senior, Isabella Rios.
