Morton East provided more than 1800 grab-and go snack bags to the Cicero community last week.
Counselors, social workers, administration, security, instructional coaches and AP student helpers packed the grab-and-go snack bags during their lunch periods. Then, at dismissal, they were distributed free to the community at exits 1 and 7 before the holidays on November 7, November 14 and November 25. More than 600 bags were distributed each time with none left over.
“Staff really wanted to take action in providing some food assistance during the government shutdown and no SNAP benefits. Since there is a free dinner for students Monday to Thursday, we decided on a snack grab and go bag for Fridays and the Tuesday before break. We partnered with food service — shoutout to food service — and used money donated to the student support fund,” said assistant principal Ms. Stef Cortes.
For Morton East, it truly is the season for giving.
