The majority of Morton East students worked at jobs this past summer.
According to Pew Research Center, more than 6 million U.S. teens, or 36.6%, had a paying job for at least part of last summer.
Senior Bryan Solis had a job over the summer.
“I did roofing and framing with my family. Sometimes there wasn’t much work to do. But, I loved being outside building. It was calming,” Bryan Solis said.
The College and Career Center has a monthly listing of jobs available for students who are looking to work.
“I first help people find something they are interested in. Then, I help them apply online. I also help them build their resume. Some businesses come (to the college and career center) and help kids get jobs and also promote their businesses,” Dayana Gonzales, the college and career center counselor, said.
Also, summer jobs help kids develop skills and give students opportunities to explore as they move into adulthood.
“It gives kids experiences about adult life,” Carla, a security at Morton East, said.
