With the cold coming, what do students worry about more: fashion or warmth?
Winter fashion often emphasizes layering to combat the cold. This can include combining sweaters, jackets, scarves, and hats to create both stylish and practical outfits. There has been a growing emphasis on sustainability in fashion, including winter wear. Eco-friendly materials, ethical production practices, and second-hand shopping for winter clothing have gained popularity.
Statement outerwear, such as oversized coats, faux fur jackets, and puffer coats in vibrant colors, has been a prominent trend. These pieces not only keep individuals warm but also serve as fashion statements. Winter fashion often involves playing with different textures. Combining wool, leather, faux fur, and other materials in a single outfit adds visual interest and depth to winter looks.
Accessories play a crucial role in winter fashion, serving both functional and aesthetic purposes. Chunky scarves, beanies, gloves, and stylish boots not only complete an outfit but also provide essential warmth during colder months.
In a survey of 100 Morton East students, 76% said they care more about fashion. What’s trending among students?
“I would say Ugg’s because they are very comfy and keep me warm; they are also cool looking,” Morton senior Emmanuel Zuniga said.
What seasons allow students to be fashionable?
“I like the winter season because it allows me to be more fashionable; the clothes are more elegant and warmer.”
Different seasons allow people to express themselves.
“I like fall because I can show off my outfits and wear accessories without feeling too overwhelmed,” Morton Senior, Perla Sanchez said.
In some occasions, dressing properly is better.
“One occasion was when I wanted to wear a dress to a party, but later on, I got cold because the dress was too short for the weather,” Morton Senior, Alondra Hernandez said.
Some clothes are really good but also bad for winter.
“I see teenagers wearing a nice button-down shirt but with no coat or sweater, and they are freezing,” Morton East Literacy specialist Tony Assay said.

I agree with the article’s concerns students face during the colder months—fashion and warmth. The student survey provides valuable insights, revealing a majority prioritizing fashion, with personal preferences with comfort and aesthetics. Most of us like students want to look good in special events like wearing a dress but I believe you can still look fashionable if you wear a coat, dress, shorts, or any clothes with good accessories by having your own style! – Valeria Rivera

Interesting! I agree with the general consensus that winter clothes are much more fashionable. I like my Ugg’s for the same reason mentioned, they are warm but also pretty. The reporter has very concise writing that made it easy to follow through. Keep up the good work! – BELMARES

Currently you can still continue to be fashionable you just gotta make sure your prepared for the weather as some people don’t know how is it gonna be today and bam! they mess up on the wrong clothes overall I like the article but however you just gotta make sure you use the right outfit and it’s weather proof to not get cold or wet or severely sick as some people don’t do that and eventually at times they get sick.
