A significant number of Morton East students have actually broken up with someone on or around Valentine’s Day.
In a random survey of 100 Morton East students, 25 (25%) said they broke up on Valentine’s Day, while 75 said they have not. According to Google AI, the most common argument over Valentine’s Day is grand gestures. We asked Google AI and were surprised to hear that 25% of teens break up over Valentine’s Day due to high pressure. We also figured we’d ask about how often adults break up on Valentine’s Day, and Google AI said about 1 in 14 adults report breaking up with someone on Valentine’s Day itself.
The most interesting response we received was from Ms. Erin Nash, an English teacher here at Morton East, who said she has broken up with somebody on Valentine’s Day.
“Because I didn’t like him and liked somebody else, he was the worst boyfriend,” Ms. Nash said.
However, not everybody broke up with somebody on Valentine’s Day. We asked if you had to, why would you?
“The only reason why I would break up with somebody before or on Valentine’s, most likely would be because I’m out of money,” senior Daniel Becerra Munoz said.
We asked another student, and his answer was similar to Daniel’s.
“I would only consider breaking up with somebody if she was cheating on me. Other than that, I wouldn’t feel the need to,” senior Andres Fernandez said.
Overall, our findings were interesting by asking Morton students and staff, as well as researching the topic.
