Half of students surveyed at Morton East plan on staying home this Valentine’s Day.
According to AI Overview from Google, students generally socialize on Valentine’s Day by going out with their friends, such as hosting or attending parties. These outings consist of gift exchanges or potlucks. Currently, students have been digitally expressing themselves by posting on their social media or even sending text messages.
In a random survey of 110 Morton East students, 51 (or 51%) of them said they were staying home on Valentine’s this year, while 25 other students (25%) said they were going on a date, as well as 22 students (22%) reporting that they are hanging out with friends this Valentine’s. Finally, 12 students (12%) have stated that they will be treating themselves to something special.
“No, the word love is too generic. Love at first sight is like, just because I’m seeing them and they are physically attractive doesn’t mean I could love her. It’s more like lust at first sight,” said security supervisor Carlos Murillo.
Staff disagree with love at first sight.
“The best thing is communication. It’s good to talk if y’all have a problem, talk it out. Y’all need to be open-minded. If y’all want to be together, you will work it out,” said Damian Jimenez.
Morton students say that love at first sight isn’t true love.
“No, because you can like someone by seeing them, but loving them is different. It’s mainly about personality,” said sophomore Genesis Frausto.
Several other students agreed that true love isn’t real.
“No, not really, because you gotta get to know the person. I rather go out to have something to do,” said senior Melissa Gonzalez.
Students share what they want to do for Valentine’s Day.
“Not really, I don’t know when I fall in love. Go out because staying inside is boring, and maybe get some play,” said junior Jonathan Oliver.
Morton teachers want something else for Valentine’s Day.
“Honestly, quiet time to myself, stay home and the family do their chores, basically an empty house, a mom’s day,” said teacher Marlo Rohde.

I agree with this article because many people stay home because the dont a have a valentine. This matters because it shows they dont have love. For example i found out that 67.67% of students in East stay home.
