According to Essential Jit Jitsu “What is Jiu Jitsu,” the word “Jiu” means gentle and the word “Jutsu” means art. Essentially. Jiu Jitsu is the “gentle art.” Jiu Jitsu is mainly based on martial arts using the principles of leverage, angles, pressure, and timing, as well as knowledge of the human anatomy, in order to achieve a nonviolent submission of one’s opponent.
“One of the hardest things that I dealt with was getting comfortable with being new -- because I was training against people with more experience, which felt intimidating,” senior Keven Cortez said.
