The Morton wrestling team recently hosted Downers Grove South High School and won 46–23.
The Morton wrestling team meets Mondays–Saturdays at the main gym or field house. The group has approximately 30 members. The purpose of the group is to push yourself to your best. According to general research, one interesting fact about high school wrestling is that you are in a judgment-free zone where you could make new friends and become the best version of yourself.
“The mission is to build one’s character and to self-improve,” said Coach Evan Gronlund. “It matters a lot to students who can spend their time wrestling and pursue many goals,” he added.
Students involved in the wrestling team discussed what the activity means to them.
“Wrestling has built who I am,” said senior wrestler Sergio Garcia.
Sergio enjoys wrestling for what it has made him become.
“I like the energy when you’re down and come back,” said senior wrestler Sergio Garcia.
Sergio loves the hard work he must put in to win.
“A good part about wrestling is that they want to be out there and prove themselves,” said coach Gronlund.
Mr. Gronlund loves to see how wrestling improves students.
“I see the growth in the students with something they’re passionate about,” said coach Gronlund
Coach Gronlund loves the positive side of wrestling, but we asked him how they work with the negative side.
“I think that negative comments do not affect them because they are trying to prove themselves and win,” said coach Gronlund
