The girls wrestling team season has just started, and so far they are doing great.
The girls wrestling team meets every day after school at Morton East High School. The group has approximately 35 members. The purpose of the group is to become stronger together and be the best team they can be. Last year, the team accomplished wrestling at the IHSA tournament. This year, their current record so far is 10-1. According to general research, one interesting fact about high school girls wrestling is that the sport is the fastest-growing sport in the United States.
“Our season is only getting more difficult, but I can see the girls finding plenty of success. I hope that we can improve during the season to go to state again,” said coach Fernando Arratia.
In addition, the coach’s prediction for the rest of the season is that the team can continue their success and learn to overcome the obstacles that come with their sport.
“Cutting weight is a challenge in the sport because I sacrifice junk food,” said junior Karla Munoz.
And even though it’s still early in the season, the girls are motivated to improve.
