Chicago Bears get in the game

Are you a friend or foe of the team?

Let’s be honest:  how many of you guys are Chicago Bears fans?  Well, it’s easy to be a fair weather fan — but what about when the team isn’t doing so well.  As of this story, Morton East Bears fans are in the minority.

Currently, the Chicago Bears have four losses this season. This comes off last season’s 10 losses in a row – giving the Bears a total consecutive loss record on 14 in a row. But it was not always that way, according to profootballhor.com: “In its first 74 years, the team compiled a 586-384-42 overall record. Chicago qualified for the playoffs 21 times, won 19 division titles, eight NFL championships, and Super Bowl XX.

The Bears also have the proud distinction of listing the most long-time team members as Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinees.”

According to ChatGPT, the Chicago Bears are a storied NFL franchise with a history dating back to 1920 when they were originally founded as the Decatur Staleys before relocating to Chicago in 1922 and adopting the name Chicago Bears. Over the years, they have achieved remarkable success, winning a total of nine NFL championships, including a memorable Super Bowl victory in 1985 during Super Bowl XX.

Some of the most iconic players in NFL history have worn the Chicago Bears’ uniform, such as Walter Payton, Dick Butkus, and Gale Sayers. The 1985 Chicago Bears, often hailed as one of the greatest NFL teams ever, were led by a formidable defense and legendary coach Mike Ditka.

Soldier Field, the historic stadium located on the shores of Lake Michigan, has served as the home turf for the Chicago Bears since 1971. The team has passionate fans known as “Bears Nation,” known for their unwavering support.

The Chicago Bears’ intense rivalries with teams like the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings add to the excitement of the NFL season, creating highly anticipated matchups. The franchise has also seen many of its players and coaches earn their place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

In terms of branding, the team’s colors are navy blue and orange, and their iconic “C” logo is instantly recognizable to football fans worldwide. “Staley Da Bear” is the name of the team’s mascot, paying homage to the team’s original name, the Decatur Staleys.

Overall, the Chicago Bears have left an indelible mark on the NFL, and their legacy continues to thrive, making them a significant part of the league’s history and culture.

We asked 100 students about the Bears if they are fans; 30 of them said they root for the Bears, and the rest said they don’t — or go for a different team.

“Yes, I am a Chicago Bears fan. I have been attending the home games for the past 10 years. During every away game, my friends and family gather at my house to eat apps and witness another loss. My daughters have drawers and drawers filled with orange and blue outfits,” English teacher Mr. Logan Brown said.

“When the Bears lose, my students come into class for “Emo Monday.” This is when I express my sadness through music (on YouTube) throughout the class period. The Bears have now lost 13 games in a row,” Mr. Logan Brown said.

“There seems to be another negative story about this team and franchise every day. Sometimes twice a day. It is honestly exhausting,”  Mr. Logan Brown said.

“I see other fan bases have competitive teams, scrappy teams, and teams that might lose, but at least they go down fighting. Right now, I feel like my team just makes people laugh. That’s been tough. This week we play the Denver Broncos. They gave up 70 points to the Miami Dolphins yesterday. Yet somehow, the Bears are 3-point underdogs at home,” Mr. Logan Brown said.

“As always, I will be at the game, cheering for this team to figure things out. That’s the thing I love most about sports fandom. You don’t have a choice. It’s your team, and the real ones are always there through the tough times. I believe that’s what makes the good times so great. It has been said that “It’s always darkest before the dawn.” As a Bears fan, it seems like I’ll have to wait a few more years for the sun to rise,” Mr. Logan Brown said.

“I don’t watch the Bears, or really any sports at all. That said I’m not a fan. I don’t hate them, I’m just very uninterested in most sports. Even for the ones that do entertain me, I don’t follow any teams,” Mr. Hinojosa, a teacher, said.

“I know nothing about the Bears, but I know they aren’t doing well,” Mr. Kent Frankfother said.

Frankfother. I agree that the Chicago Bears have been awful these couple of seasons for example 2022 where they had only 3 wins in the season and 6 wins in 2021.

O’Malley I agree because the bears has not been doing good this season. They have only won 2 games this season and with Justin field out of the games because of his injury.
