Students are split on when to put up the Christmas decorations.
In a quick survey of 10 Morton East students, five students said they put up Christmas decorations in November, and five said they put them up in December. (One student, senior Angel Rodriguez, says he decorates 2 DAYS before Christmas!)
So, what do the experts say? According to tradition, Christmas trees and decorations should go up on the first day of Advent, which is the fourth Sunday before Christmas. According to home decorating expert Martha Stewart, “It was once considered to be the general rule of thumb to wait until after Thanksgiving before decorating for Christmas, but in modern times, that no longer seems to be the case.”
Some people like to start early to get into the holiday spirit, while others prefer to wait until closer to Christmas. Christmas decorations typically start going up after Thanksgiving, which is the fourth Thursday in November in the United States. In some countries, it’s common to begin decorating on December 1st.
“I think if you start before Thanksgiving it’s still too early,” English teacher Mr. Tony Asay said.
Another teacher agrees with Mr. Asay.
“I would say now is too early to decorate for Christmas. I think it’s fine after November 1st,” civics teacher Ms. Brenda Lopez said.
But, others may disagree.
“It’s never too early! BUT I would say maybe November is too early. Give Thanksgiving it’s time to shine,” work program teacher Ms. Basuel said.

I think it’s never to early to decorate for the holidays, sometimes people do it because of the weather and if it’s nice enough to start decorating.
