Morton Show: Which Is the Best Rap Song of 2023?

In a random survey of 100 Morton East students, 34 students selected the song ‘First Person Shooter’ by Drake and J Cole as the best rap song of 2023. The song debuted on the Billboard 100, placing #1 on the charts. Knowing this, Drake tied his #1 hits with Michael Jackson, and J Cole had his first #1 song of his discography.

‘The song has 2 artists that I’ve wanted to collaborate with before and has a unique sound to it,’ Senior Uriel Bernabe said.

Another song that most students chose was ‘Deli’ by Ice Spice as the best female rap song of 2023. Ice Spice was nominated for ‘Best New Artist of 2023’ and won this award at the MTV VMAS. Her rise came from her hit ‘Munch’ that came out previously in 2023.

In 2nd and 3rd place for the best rap song were ‘F**umean’ by Gunna and a tie between ‘The Secret Recipe’ by J Cole and Lil Yachty. For the female rap songs, in 2nd place was ‘Skeeyee’ by Sexyy Red, and in 3rd was ‘Jealousy’ by Cardi B and Offset.

For the last question, Morton students chose the Best Rap Album of 2023. Most Morton students chose ‘UTOPIA’ by Travis Scott. ‘UTOPIA’ debuted #1 on the Billboard 100, adding another #1 hit to his discography. In 2nd place, students chose ‘For All The Dogs’ by Drake, and in 3rd place was ‘Scarlet’ by Doja Cat.
