
Town of Cicero Mayor Larry Dominick is up against competitor Esteban Rodriguez to earn the title of Cicero’s mayor.
However, how do Morton East High School students and Cicero residents feel about this election? The upcoming election has many people in the community voting either for the current town president of Cicero or a new mayor. Therefore, we went around Morton East High School to interview students and staff about their opinions on this election, as the voting ballot has been set up in front of the Morton building.
Interview with a Morton Security Guard
We asked a Morton security guard the following question: Did you vote for a new town mayor?
The security guard stated, “No, I didn’t vote. I was working; however, if I was able to, I would have voted for Larry Dominick.”
Why Larry Dominick, though?
“I would have voted for Larry Dominick because I honestly feel like Cicero has been in good hands for a while now, and I see that continuing.”
Interview with a Teacher
We interviewed a teacher to get his thoughts on the election. He stated, “The election was a fair fight and a very close one as well. Not only that, but Larry Dominick has been mayor since I became a resident about six years ago.”
Who Is Larry Dominick?

Larry Dominick is the president of the town of Cicero. He is a 50-year-old resident who graduated from Morton East High School and also attended Morton Community College.
Dominick also joined the Cicero Police Department, where he served for 20 years before retiring. However, he didn’t stop there. In 2005, Larry Dominick won an election for a four-year term as the Cicero town president in February 2005. He officially took office on May 10, 2005, and remains the town president to this day.
What Has Larry Dominick Done for Cicero?
Larry Dominick has worked to reduce gang activity and has implemented programs for senior citizens, such as yard work assistance, discounted water bills, and transportation services.

Esteban Rodriguez’s Plans
However, his competitor, Esteban Rodriguez, plans to protect the immigrant community and work to prevent flooding, which has been a recent issue.
Who Is Esteban Rodriguez?
Esteban Rodriguez was born and raised in Grant Works and has lived in five different neighborhoods in Cicero. He has worked in multiple fields, including health, violence prevention, criminal justice reform, housing, and elder care.
Rodriguez attended public schools in Cicero from kindergarten through Morton College before transferring to the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).
Interview with a Morton East Student
We interviewed senior Keven Armas, hoping to get his personal opinion on the election. He stated that he voted for Esteban Rodriguez:
“I personally voted for Esteban because I want my friends and family to stay protected from immigration policies.”
How does he feel about the election?
Keven Armas stated, “It’s pretty interesting to see somebody run against Larry Dominick because I think he’s gonna win again. He’s been mayor since I was born. However, I do hope to see this close race.”
Election Results
Overall, the race to become the president of the town of Cicero was a close and fair race. As citizens of Cicero submitted their votes, the poll results were 57% to 42%—a close race, as Larry Dominick won the title for the Town of Cicero once again!
However, despite losing the race, Esteban Rodriguez still had a positive outlook on the results. According to WGN (Chicago’s Very Own), Rodriguez stated:
“Cicero is home to me. We’re going to continue committing and continue serving because this is where my heart is; this is where I’m raising my child, and I’m not backing down. I’m doubling down and tripling down.”
Meanwhile, Larry Dominick gave a speech at Paisans. According to WGN News, he stated:
“I’m always here for the people. I’ve worked for the town since 1970. I’ve been a lucky guy—worked as a garbage man, policeman, and now the town president. I’ve had a long run.” As Larry Dominick continues to take care of the residents of Cicero.
In the end, Larry Dominick took home the win, and many residents of Cicero were left happy and relieved as he continues to take care of the community while in office.
