Cheap gift ideas to give this holiday

At Morton East, students were asked about cheap gift ideas for the holidays.

According to The science Christian monitor, “How did gift-giving and crawling get started?” Gift giving has its roots when Christianity folded these rituals into Christmas, the justification for bearing gifts was redirected to the Three Wise Men, who gave gifts to the infant Jesus. In addition, Northern Europe has been the historical beginning of many customs and traditions we associate with Christmas today. Furthermore according to the Atlantic, “Why do children get gifts on Christmas” The practice of buying Christmas presents for children in America began during the first half of the 1800s, particularly in New York City, and was part of the broader transformation of Christmas from a time of public revelry to a family holiday. Apart from this, according to Tally, “how much do Americans spend on Christmas each year?” There was a consistent growth of how much was spent from 2016 to 2019 however in 2020 because of the covid-19 pandemic, it decreased by 1.3%. Moreover, holiday shopping creates debt for some Americans. A 2020 Magnify money survey found the average shopper took on $1,381 in holiday-related credit card debt. In a survey out of 105 Morton East, 85 students said it’s possible to find last minute affordable gifts.

“I usually buy gifts for my family, some of my close friends and my girlfriend,” sophomore Gabriel Suarez said. 

In addition another student said 

“My friends and family, I made a list of who I need to give gifts to, so it keeps me organized,” senior Luz Mora- Bejar said.

One student was asked their shopping preference 

“I like to shop online, since I really don’t like going out and shopping, since that is too much work,” senior Fatima Garica said. 

Besides from this students were asked what their budget 

“I didn’t have a budget before, but now I do. My budget is 200 dollars, since I have a big family, I usually buy a lot of gifts and end up not having any money left over,”  junior Kenia Herandez said.

In addition to this students were asked what were some affordable gifts they purchased 

“I would say, some affordable gifts are candy, like chocolate, everyone loves chocolate,” senior America Lule said.
