Most Morton students believe in the paranormal – even in our community

Morton 201 District is no stranger to paranormal activity — specifically the East campus which opened back in 1894.

Teachers and security staff at East have reported ghostly activities — from doors closing on their own to teachers hearing their name when no one is there. Morton College has also been reported to have a young girl named Emily who was murdered, and whose spirit lingers around this school and has been seen by security guards on the rooftops at night, and theatergoers have heard her in the theater according to Huntedplaces.org. But first we asked Morton students if they believe in such thing as a ghost and in a random survey of 82 East students, 51% said they do believe in ghosts or have experienced any paranormal activity in their lifetime.

“When I had just begun my freshman year of high school, I entered the 4-floor bathroom and noticed a shadow but didn’t think much of it till I realized I was alone,” Senior Giovanni Munoz said.

Nearly one-in-five U.S. adults have reported having seen a ghost or been in the presence of one.

“When I was young, I went to the basement of my house to wash my clothes when I noticed a toy truck that all sudden got pushed to the other side of the room and next thing you know I’m running and crying to get upstairs,” Neighbor Jorge Cruz said.

But, the school does have its non-believers.

“There’s no ghost in this school, the only ghost is Casper the Ghost,” Scooby said.

Fortunately for Morton, our leader hasn’t seen a ghost.

“Trust me if I ever experience something paranormal, I will quit my job,” Principal Gamboa said.
