Many seniors missing out on prom, a lifetime of memories

In a shocking random survey of seniors, 7 out of 10 students said they weren’t going to prom.

That is the most devastating news ever – that seniors don’t want to (or can’t) attend their school’s last high school event. Some might say they are missing out on a lifetime of memories. Even more shocking is the fact that many of those seniors aren’t going to prom because they can’t participate in senior activities due to not meeting the academic requirements – passing all classes, having no incompletes, and no high absences.

“It only happens once. I don’t want to look back and regret it,” said student Christian Ramos.

Prom is an important event for many high school seniors. It’s a night to dress up, dance, and celebrate the end of their high school journey with their classmates. For many students, prom represents the culmination of their high school experience, and it is a night they will never forget.

“It’s one of the moments you would never forget before high school ends. Don’t forget the moments of high school because when you get older, you would regret not going,” said Senior Betzaida Armas of Morton East High School.

One of the reasons why prom is so important to seniors is that it’s a chance to make memories with their friends. After spending four years together in high school, prom is a final opportunity to have fun and enjoy each other’s company before everyone goes their separate ways. It’s a night of laughter, dancing, and taking photos that will be cherished for years to come.

“I’m for sure going because it is the last opportunity to party with my friends during high school,” said senior Yessica Martínez.

Another reason why prom is important to seniors is that it’s a chance to feel special and celebrated. For many students, prom is the first time they get to dress up and feel like a celebrity. The excitement of getting ready for the big night, picking out the perfect dress or suit, and getting their hair and makeup done is a memorable experience that they will always treasure.

“One of the many things I’m excited for is getting dressed up and ready like going to a formal type and just partying with my friends one last time,” said student Jada Tate.

There are some who think that prom isn’t worth the expense.

“Prom is a waste of money and might be boring, and I don’t want to end high school with some lame dance,” said senior Gajuan Williams.

According to journalism teacher Mr. Frankfother (who helped organize the prom of 2018 with Ms. Judge), there are ways to save money.

“It doesn’t have to cost you an arm or a leg if you do some planning.  Sure the tickets might set you back, but you can save money on suits and dresses by recycling something you’ve already worn at a formal event or wedding.  Goodwill and thrift stores also sell prom dresses; you just need to look around.  As for flowers, look at videos on YouTube how to make your own,” said Mr. Kent Frankfother.

Nonetheless, prom is important to seniors because it marks the end of an era. After prom, students will graduate and move on to the next phase of their lives. Prom is a celebration of all the hard work and dedication that they put into their high school careers. It’s a chance to say goodbye to their teachers, classmates, and school, and to look forward to the future with hope and excitement.

In conclusion, prom is an important event for high school seniors because it’s a chance to make memories with their friends, to feel special and celebrated, and to mark the end of an era. It’s a night that they will always remember and cherish, and a fitting way to celebrate the end of their high school journey.

Maybe you should reconsider your reasons for not attending this year!
