Truth behind hardships of security guard jobs at Morton East

When you think of school, you think about teachers, principals, deans, councilors, and students. Do you ever think about school security guards? School security guards must deal with a massive amount of stress and responsibility.
According to the article “The importance of security personnel in schools” it states, “it provides a sense of security and a healthier learning environment.” While proving to be a tough task for those who do come and work as security guards, other students prove the hardships that the security guards go through, in a survey of 100 Morton East student’s 70% percent of students said they would not come back to Morton to work as a security guard.
“In all honesty, I wouldn’t come back to Morton after I graduate to work as a security because I don’t agree with their system and how they treat students,” an anonymous Morton East student said.
While students have certain opinions about security guards and how they do their job, other students at Morton East have a positive view and appreciate security guards.
“Something I appreciate about security guards at Morton is that they always encourage us to make it on time to class and they make sure to keep us safe from other students,” Morton east student Carlos Tafoya said.
So, while there may be students who complain about security and the job that they do, security too have their own complaints on what makes the job more difficult.
“(Something I find hard about my job) I would say (would be) dealing with fights and nonsense that happens throughout the day,” Morton East security guard Juan said.
When asked the question of “what is something you dislike about your job is?” to a Morton security guard this is what he said.
“Something I dislike about my job is when students hurt each other when they’re fighting and when students can’t be students and have to work long hours after school and then start failing. It’s hard to see students that deal with so much at home and then bring their problems to school,” Morton East security guard Luis said.
