What makes a club successful?

There are more than 900+ active club members at Morton East, For example, Anthony Dominguez Patino is a member of Mathletes, and JSA. so what makes a club successful?

A club is an association or organization dedicated to a particular interest or activity. In schools all over the States, clubs help students academically and mentally, when they feel the need for better academic success. A significant number of students are taking advantage of non-athletic opportunities, such as academic sports. Both athletes and non-athlete students are discovering that the latest school clubs are not only building students’ profiles for college applications, but they’re additionally providing rare possibilities for travel, competitions, awards, or even university scholarships!

According to recent statistics compiled from five star, provided by Assistant Principal Mr. Phillip Depa, there are 915 students that actively participate in clubs at Morton East.

So, what makes a club more successful and draws in students? 

When asked about the benefits of a club  “Mostly i feel like that the club supports my emotional needs and is good tool to escape my after-school homework.” Said Casey Nussban a Senior at Morton East High School
 In addition to this, many sponsors like the opportunity to connect with the community and students of this building. 

“I think the reason why the club is so successful I mean because we do have a huge Hispanic community at Morton East and a lot of them are very interested in you know getting to know their culture” Ms. Montalvo a passionate sponsor of  folklorico dance and teacher at Morton East. 

Aside from these factors, some clubs at Morton East High School attract more students than others. Some of the biggest clubs at Morton East tend to be kinetic driven clubs. These clubs high numbers of active member’s at Morton East.

“We have 100+ active members that come twice a week. Students grew the club so large that it could get 2 sponsors, “said Mr. Bagley, one of the club sponsors. 

However, there are other clubs at Morton East that have declined in members in the past few years some to the point of complete extinction and irrelevance . 

“Last year I had 20 people every week however this year I think everyone is into other stuff,” Said Mr.Lindenburg the sponsor of chess club.

There are other clubs at Morton east that have received new breath into their clubs because they offer something that other ones don’t.  

 “One thing Folklorico has given is a new friendships and has helped me with stage fright. I really dont see what other club really offer this.” Said Verena Valdez Morton East Student.
