Students still traveling by plane during COVID-19
March 10, 2021
Students are taking fewer flights since the pandemic began (for a multitude of reasons), but some students and families are still taking trips by airplane.
According to Travel Leisure the safety of flying during COVID-19 is complicated and comes with caveats: how clean are the planes, is it safer to fly domestically or to fly internationally, how safe is the airports. The procedures of cleaning the planes now take 30 minutes after every fight to clean the airplane thoroughly. Some have electrostatic antimicrobial sprays so they don’t miss a spot on the plane. Flying internationally has some pros that flying domestically doesn’t have. For example, you have to have a negative COVID-19 test pre-flight. In addition, airports have been very clean with hand sanitizers always full and have daily reminders to put your mask on. All of the workers have double makes even the cleaners. Flying during the pandemic is never 100 percent safe; there will always be a risk since it’s impossible to eliminate complete risk according to Travel Leisure.
If you are flying internationally, you have to take a COVID-19 test 3 days before in order to fly.
“Flying during the pandemic can be safe if everyone does their part and takes the proper precautions. I flew once, due to an emergency and I had no problems. I wore a mask and sanitized constantly. The airline I flew with did not have a full flight, which allowed for enough social distancing,” said civics teacher Ms.Davlia said.
There has been many people traveling during COVID-19. The airlines have cut the number of airplanes flying which means more plans are going to be packed. Airlines are all different some won’t let all of the seats be taken and others can be full. Some of the airlines have electrooptic antimicrobial sprays so they don’t miss a spot on the plane.
“Flying during the pandemic can be different for everyone, it depends where do you go and how do you go,” said senior Sujeily Torres.
If you go flying during the pandemic there’s always a chance of getting COVID-19 you can never be 100% safe from COVID-19. Therefore, if you go traveling it is at your own risk. When you do travel, it is best if you take every precaution. Flying during the pandemic is never 100 percent safe according to Travel Leisure.
“I think it can be safe if you wash your hands and wear masks and be as safe as possible,” said senior Briana Maciel.

Frankfother. I agree that its a bit risky to fly internationally considering be have a worldwide pandemic on our hands but if you take the right precautions you should be fine. I personally went to Mexico a couple months ago and took the right precautions and luckily nothing bad happened. The flight attendants had their masks on and there was hand sanitizer before hopping on the plane. The actual people that were traveling on the other hand weren’t being to considerate as some wouldn’t wear masks or stay at least 6 feet away most were right behind you that you could literally feel there breath on the back of your neck.
