Majority of students have had car accidents
October 7, 2019
The majority of Morton East students have been in a car accident.
When Morton East students/staff were surveyed, it shows that more people have gotten into at least one car accident so far. In a random survey of 100 students, 58 have gotten into a car accident. That’s more than 50%. Shockingly – or not — if you talk on the phone while driving your chances of crashing increase by 400%. Road accidents cost the U.S $230.6 billion per year.
Respecting road laws and speed limits are important for all safety.
I was drifting my car and hit the sidewalk after I realized that my suspension was ruined,” senior Michael Aguirre said.
The most important thing in any accident is to make sure everyone is okay.
“The feeling was not good, I knew it was my fault both times, luckily there were no injuries,”
Auto Mechanic teacher Mr. Yunker said.
And, remember that leaving the scene of an accident is a felony.
“It was with 2 other friends another car cut me off, and I rear–ended him, I took off.”
Senior Johan Rodriguez said.
Your actions can affect everybody
“it was pretty bad, I rolled over twice in the car and then I stopped when I hit the pole.”
Senior Anthony Erickson
We should all be more careful when it comes to road safety.
“Depends on who the better driver, women are a little more careful.”:
English teacher Ms. Ororzco said.

It’s good that you had a lot of information and even surveyed students, but I feel like your transitions could be stronger

1) I like how they included surveys from students that have been into accidents.
2) They did a good job by adding quotes from students that drive and have experience with that.
3) They could work on their grammar and double check their spelling.

Interesting topic and good headline but it could use more information.

I like how they included personal testimonies from students.
I think they should put a main story instead of putting so many quotes.

Good headline however it could use additional information throughout the article.

There have been many car crashes but it surprises me how there’s a lot of students/staff who’ve been in one. I don’t think there’s many people that will respect the laws because no matter what, people won’t learn unless they experience it themselves.

I tend to agree with other fellow students who say that by leaving the scene of a car crash that either you caused or were apart of it is wrong and further charges should be pursued. I like how in the article there are quotes from both students and teacher who experience a car crash and their perspectives of it.

Its honestly shocking how many students have been in a car accident

These statistics are big. Good article, very eye opening. Especially with the over 50% statistic, it’s crazy how high these numbers are.

Students should be extremely careful driving because when driving you need full attention on the road. There should not be so many accidents and that is scary and shocking that over 50% of students driving crash. I hope students are more precautions on the roads and do not get distracted by their phones or even getting distracted by eating in the car.

This makes me more nervous about driving. Especially how easy it is to be distracted, and your chances of getting into a car accident while on your phone is 400% more then regular.

I think when you’re driving you should be careful of your surroundings. There are many people who have no experience driving and get in car crashes.

Reading how many teen car accident have happen is not that unexpected. Its not unexpected because more and more teens think that texting while driving is save just because they are doing it. Teens should be more careful .

The amount of teen car accidents is surprising. Teens should be more cautious since they’re not only affecting themselves but the people around them and the number of accidents keeps increasing. Overall good article.

Showing the amount of students/staff have actually experienced being in a car crash and it being more than half of the students is insane. I agree on how it can affect the people around you and you yourself by fleeing, and just easily being distracted by phones, friends or just simply not being alert on your surroundings while driving. By seeing the amount of students affected by this many might take this as a wake up call and be careful when on the road.

leslye carrasco • Oct 8, 2019 at 9:24 am
I also agree with this article “teens need to drive more carefully” due to the fact that they could end up being really injured and also because the number of teen car accidents are increasing by 400%. They interview 100 students and out of those students 60% were in a car accident.
Antonio Acosta • Oct 8, 2019 at 9:23 am
It was shocking to find out this information, but at the same time I’m not surprised because there’s a lot of reckless drivers that don’t think before they act on the roads which leads to having accidents.

I think peole should stay after an accident. Many people just leave the scene.
Fernanda Sanchez Duran • Oct 7, 2019 at 12:30 pm
its insane how more then 50% of 100 students have gotten in a car accident. this was shocking. good work.
