Have you vaped in the past week?   If so, how often do you vape?  More than half of students here may be vaping, survey says.

In a random survey of 100 Morton East students, 60 students reported that they have vaped in the past week, and the other 40% reported they have not vaped in the past week.  E-cigs can cause health risks with or without nicotine. E-cigs caused respiratory illness nationwide. Some harmful ingredients that are in e-cigs are:

  • Flavorants (like dactyl, a chemical that is linked to serious lung disease)
  • Volatile (explosive) organic compounds
  • Nickel, tin, and lead are heavy metals that are in e cigs.

So, how many people get caught vaping in school?

“We catch one person each day — three on a busy day,” School dean Denise Gomez said.

And, who is mostly doing it and where are they mostly getting caught at?

“Boys are mainly to do it– it’s mainly in the third-floor washroom,” Ms. Gomez said

What are the consequences for vaping in school?

“If someone is caught the consequence depends on their background,” Ms. Gomez said
