When it’s good it’s great for Morton girls tennis

The Morton girl’s tennis team sees great potential and better seasons coming forward.

The Morton girl’s Tennis team coaches see better improvement in players after facing multiple opponents this year. Players have tried harder to improve their skills not just during but also outside of practice. This season, the team has had a rocky start to this season with some losses: JV1 having four wins and JV2 having one win — but when there are wins there’s a big advantage in the scores.

“It’s been a fun and exciting season so far. My level, JV2, has just had its first couple of matches and shows a lot of promise in the early going. If we continue to work hard, we should end up seeing a lot of growth for our players,” JV2 coach Joe Jr. Starr said.

The majority of the girls who joined the team at the beginning of the season have stayed and enjoyed learning and playing against other schools, as well as last year’s returning players. According to bashtennis.com’s “101 Tennis Facts & Statistics” Tennis dates back to the 12th century in France when someone hit the ball with the palm of their hand and they called it the “game of the palm” it wasn’t until the 16th century when they added rackets into the game. Later the name tennis then came from the Anglo-Norman term “Tenez.” Throughout the years, there have only been two major changes. Also, threeSa miles is about the average amount of running done for a two-set match.

Coaches are focused on getting players ready for varsity

“This season has been enjoyable and though we have a lot of work to do we are improving. Our focus at the JV level is always improving. The win/loss record is less important than preparing girls to be able to play on the varsity level,” said JV1 coach Phill Stowers.

JV2 coach Joe Starr Jr. also describes this season in an impressed way.

“The biggest difference at my level this season has been the number of players. As compared to last year, many more new players have come out to try tennis, and so the size of my team has almost doubled. This is an exciting prospect for future years, but also makes my job more challenging, as I have to manage a larger variety of skill levels and personalities,” said JV2 coach Joe Jr. Starr.

Even though the girls have had some rough matches this season, the JV1 girls were able to win one of their conference matches against Addison, and still, the girls see it as a learning opportunity to grow and improve their skills to continue to win more matches before the season ends.

“I think the season is going well for all levels of tennis. Some games are won others are lost but everyone learns from playing more matches,” said Former JV1 player Daniela Ruiz.
