Varsity football takes two conference wins
October 3, 2022
The Morton varsity football team takes two conference wins against Addison Trail and Leyden.
According to Public School Review’s “10 Reasons Why High School Sports Benefit Students”, the students earn this feeling of community and the honor of representing and supporting the school. As high school sports keep expanding, the gathering of support will lead to new friendships and an overall better experience. The exposure the athletes get may lead to better opportunities for their futures as well as supporters get exposed to new experiences. Previously on their senior night, the Mustangs lost towards the very last play of the game after a great comeback against Riverside-Brookfield. In a random survey of 100 Morton students, 64% of students said they enjoy the experience of these high school football games.
“(In a) regular game, (there are about) 1000-2000 (fans) in the student section. At Homecoming game we had 2500 with a total of 4000 people including both sides and parent section,” the great principal Mr. Jose Gamboa said.
Varsity homes games start around 6:30 but many students like to arrive early to meet up with friends and get a good seat.
“Friday’s home games are so fun, there’s always a positive vibes and you get to hang out with friends and just have a good time on a Friday night,” Junior Luis Moreno said.
Fan attendance hasn’t been the only driving factor for the Mustang’s success so far this season.
“(There are about) 20-30 (seniors on varsity). Normally we don’t have as much commitment, but the senior class has done a better job of being committed during the season and during the off-season,” Coach Marik Sorensen said.
Despite having lost the first two games of the season, the boys bounced back going on a two-game winning streak to then experience another setback against Hinsdale South.
“Something we can improve on is being ready right from the start,” Varsity player Marvin Martinez said.
We hope to win the last home game against Downers Grove on October 14th. See you there!

Genge, What I liked about the article is that there was a lot of hype in it, Meaning that every home game we have is so fun to go to because you get to be with friends and hang out. what was surprising was how many people were at the Hoco game and the regular home games.

I like how the article was well written, it showed enough evidence on how many people attended at the football games. How the game was intense when they had senior night.

Genge: I agree with the point you are making, as finding one simple thing to root for can unify so much more than just a school. While I have not gone to a football game, I am hoping to catch the next one in a week, and I would be able to see what being a part of the experience is like.

Genge. I like this article because I do agree Friday games are the best you always have a good time no matter if they win or lose if I’m honest. The commitment the seniors have is also a very good jo.

What I liked about your article is that you added information on how many people attended the Hoco game and a normal game. Also adding the information on how seniors commitment has increased since most seniors lack motivation since its the last year. One negative thing would be the pictures they just need a little bit of editing to make them look a little more clear.
