Split decision on the scalping of game consoles

Half of Morton East students believe that scalping should be banned, while the other half think it’s a way to make money and get desirable, yet hard to get gaming consoles.

Currently, Morton East students are trying to get a PS5/XSX, but scalpers are making things difficult. According to a survey titledShould the U.S. ban scalping on the PS5 and also on the Xbox Series X?”  In a random poll of Morton East students, 50% said to ban scalping and 50% said to not ban scalping. For those who do not know what scalping is, it is a way to put overpriced on things like the new consoles and make a lot of money.  

Still, some students are willing to spend the extra money and buy from scalpers because the consoles mean a lot to them.

“I was trying to get my hands on the PS5, but all the retail stores are out of stocks, and it’s now very difficult to get — even for the Xbox series X.,” said Senior Jonathan Leon. 

On a website called IGN, it sai,d In late 2020, a group of UK MPs tabled an early day motion to discuss the banning of scalping, and the use of automated bots for “gaming consoles and computer components for “gaming consoles and computer components.”
