Valentine’s Day as a National Holiday

Valentine’s Day should be considered as a national holiday.

According to pedaltalk.com, each year, more than 36 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolates are sold across the country. February 14th is the second-largest giving day of the year, just after Christmas, the pedaltalk also says. According to goodhousekeeping.com, Valentine’s day was started when Saint Valentine defied Claudius II when he banned marriage because it distracted soldiers. Valentine illegally married couples. He was eventually caught and sentenced to death on February 14th. The same website tells us that many celebrate by showing appreciation to their lovers and friends. A final statement from the same website states that in Japan, February 14th is a day when women/girls confess their feelings to men. In a random survey of 100 Morton East students, 54 students reported that valentine’s day should be considered a national holiday.
“ I think it should be a national holiday but I don’t think we should take off work, Valentine’s Day can still be a holiday where you love your friends, family and yourself, it doesn’t have to be with a specific person”. Morton East Teacher Ms. Lopez said.
Valentine’s Day is a day of not only love but affection as well.
“Valentine’s Day is a good way to express the amount of love you have for that one person”. Senior Isaac Carrasco said.
Other students think differently.
“There shouldn’t be a specific day for that, it should be all year long type of thing, love throughout the year PERIOD!”. Morton East student Crystal Roque said.
Some people think Valentine’s Day has a different meaning.
“No, because love shouldn’t be a one-day kind of a holiday. It should be a daily routine, love happens on a regular basis, its conservation with hugs and kisses, hugging family, loving family”. Morton East teacher Mr. Brozostowski
