History Fair Projects head to State

After a successful regional showing, some students head downstate for State championships

Morton East’s winning history fair projects attended UIC’s Chicago regional history fair competition in February.

Six Morton East juniors are heading to the Illinois State History Fair competition in Springfield on April 24. 

This is the third stage of the National History Day competition.  First, students competed against other Morton East students at a schoolwide History Fair.  Teachers judged and identified 12 projects that would go onto the next regional round at UIC.  35 students qualified for the Chicagoland regional competition that was held on Saturday, March 2 at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).  Their projects included free-standing exhibits, websites, documentaries, and a research paper.   This year’s theme is “Turning Points in History.”   Regional qualifiers included the following:

A virtual awards ceremony was held on Wednesday, March 20.  Moton East’s regional participants got together to support each other and eat pizza.  4 Morton East projects will be going onto the State Competition in Springfield this April.

    One thing I wonder is that even though many of the students went to the state championships how many efforts did it take to try your best and how much did you practice or train for it ?
