#SaveOurChildren was a big trend this year, although no one is quite sure where it originated from.

The popular hashtag has also brought up some conspiracies as well as awareness to child trafficking. According to worldschildren.org, 1 in 4 human trafficking victims are children, and 55% are women and girls. According to dosomething.org, California is the hottest state in the US for human trafficking followed by Texas, and California. Human trafficking also makes a profit of $150 billion dollars. And to follow up to some conspiracies, and a woman claiming to be trafficked as a child “xoodyssey” that you can google, or search up on YouTube, has claimed that there are underground tunnels that people use to transport their victims to their buyers. Since there are a bunch of abandoned tunnels underground it isn’t that hard to imagine this happening. Although according to theconversation.com, most tunnels aren’t usableAnother conspiracy involves Jeffrey Epstein, he was being accused of abusing minors, and was awaiting trial when he killed himself. Knowingly, Epstein also had an island, and he supposedly kept minors in his home. Many celebrities are also being accused of pedophilia which involves, Donald Trump, Joe Biden, Oprah, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Seth Green, Stephen Hawking, Tom Hanks, Ellen, Dan Schneider, John Legend and his wife, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, and many others. Some companies also being accused of promoting pedophilia and even trafficking are Disney, Wayfair, Netflix, Hulu, Nickelodeon, and many others. In a random survey of 53 people, 66% thought sex exploitation was the worst part of child trafficking.

Child trafficking breaks my heart.  I do not understand why people are willing to use children in various and awful ways.  Children are innocent and should NEVER be forced to be exposed (pushed into) any type of trafficking,” said Morton East teacher, Mrs. Genge.

It is estimated that 460,000 children go missing each year in the US alone.

I would hope all humans are strongly opposed to all human trafficking, including the human trafficking U.S. citizens did through much of our history here in the U.S. We should do everything we can to stop trafficking and instead fight to ensure everyone’s rights to life, liberty and security of person as listed in 1948’s United Nations Declaration of Human Rights,” said Morton East teacherMr. Doherty.

In the media, there is rarely any talk about human trafficking.

Mainstream media is owned by corporations, and corporations only exist if they make a profit ($), so programming can be determined by what will make money. I don’t know whether trafficking gets a lot of attention or not,” said Morton East teacher, Mr. Doherty.

The popular hashtag, #SaveOurChildren had more than 1 million posts about it on Facebook alone.

“Child trafficking is very messed up and bad, said Senior Edgar Morales.
