Children are likely trafficked for labor
February 4, 2021
#SaveOurChildren was a big trend this year, although no one is quite sure where it originated from.
The popular hashtag has also brought up some conspiracies as well as awareness to child trafficking. According to worldschildren.org, 1 in 4 human trafficking victims are children, and 55% are women and girls. According to dosomething.org, California is the hottest state in the US for human trafficking followed by Texas, and California. Human trafficking also makes a profit of $150 billion dollars. And to follow up to some conspiracies, and a woman claiming to be trafficked as a child “xoodyssey” that you can google, or search up on YouTube, has claimed that there are underground tunnels that people use to transport their victims to their buyers. Since there are a bunch of abandoned tunnels underground it isn’t that hard to imagine this happening. Although according to theconversation.com, most tunnels aren’t usable. Another conspiracy involves Jeffrey Epstein, he was being accused of abusing minors, and was awaiting trial when he killed himself. Knowingly, Epstein also had an island, and he supposedly kept minors in his home. Many celebrities are also being accused of pedophilia which involves, Donald Trump, Joe Biden, Oprah, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Seth Green, Stephen Hawking, Tom Hanks, Ellen, Dan Schneider, John Legend and his wife, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, and many others. Some companies also being accused of promoting pedophilia and even trafficking are Disney, Wayfair, Netflix, Hulu, Nickelodeon, and many others. In a random survey of 53 people, 66% thought sex exploitation was the worst part of child trafficking.
“Child trafficking breaks my heart. I do not understand why people are willing to use children in various and awful ways. Children are innocent and should NEVER be forced to be exposed (pushed into) any type of trafficking,” said Morton East teacher, Mrs. Genge.
It is estimated that 460,000 children go missing each year in the US alone.
“I would hope all humans are strongly opposed to all human trafficking, including the human trafficking U.S. citizens did through much of our history here in the U.S. We should do everything we can to stop trafficking and instead fight to ensure everyone’s rights to life, liberty and security of person as listed in 1948’s United Nations Declaration of Human Rights,” said Morton East teacher, Mr. Doherty.
In the media, there is rarely any talk about human trafficking.
“Mainstream media is owned by corporations, and corporations only exist if they make a profit ($), so programming can be determined by what will make money. I don’t know whether trafficking gets a lot of attention or not,” said Morton East teacher, Mr. Doherty.
The popular hashtag, #SaveOurChildren had more than 1 million posts about it on Facebook alone.
“Child trafficking is very messed up and bad,” said Senior Edgar Morales.

I read on social media that this had happened to a persons sibling and it made me feel bad and angry for them because I couldn’t believe someone would actually have the mind to do this trash

( Belmares) I do feel like human trafficking is a huge deal even more so if it involve children. children are the future of this world and should be taken care of not mistreated. it really is sad that there are humans that are like that. we become so scared of the monsters of the world that we become the monsters themselves.
Adan Cruz • Feb 11, 2021 at 2:07 am
Teacher: Belmares,This article is really heartbreaking but also good to spread the word because most people don’t care for trafficking and don’t realize how many kids actually go missing. The families need support from each other because this is a horrible act that humans do but this article really makes people realize what’s going on outside of our little bubble.
Sandra Soliz (Belmares) • Feb 10, 2021 at 11:31 pm
I think this was a really good article, it helps bring light on one of issues that circled around for some time, but was brushed away. I like how the information goes farther in depth with the significance it has to the general public, mostly our country.
Manuel Macias BELMARES • Feb 9, 2021 at 10:32 pm
I think this article did a great job in spreading their message, because by using facts and statistics is more helpful to aware people about what is happening around them and about child trafficking. It also helps to show how child trafficking can affect many kids and young adults. It is awful and unfair what some kids go thru and this article helps to spread awareness so people can put an end to this.
Blake Macias • Feb 9, 2021 at 3:08 pm
Daly–It is truly devasting to think that while right now we may be at home others are currently being trafficked for profit. It is so sick and cruel and I was truly glad that people were beginning to spread awareness more this year. However, I do think this hashtag should have started a long time ago because this topic is very important. We should be trying our best to do what we can to help stop this horrific cycle.
Aleks Pacheco (Belmares) • Feb 9, 2021 at 2:24 pm
Belmares- it’s a really big problem in the world that isnt really discussed which makes you wonder how the families feel when they learn that their child gets taken before they arrive at home and if they’ve ever found their child through private detectives or if the police find the trafficker. Overall it was still a good article and well written.
Lesly Arroyo (Ms. Belmares) • Feb 9, 2021 at 2:04 pm
Lesly Arroyo Belmares – this article is very important and should get more attention, all those kids need to be saved i wish schools talked more about serious stuff like this instead of resource’s some might not even use growing up.
Milagros Aguinaga (Belmares) • Feb 9, 2021 at 1:56 pm
(Belmares) Human trafficking is a topic rarely talked about in the media because of how dark the topic gets, but articles like this help educate people on whats really going on in the world. This also allows people to voice their opinion and stories. The children need to be saved no one deserves what they go through.
Yailine • Feb 9, 2021 at 1:54 pm
BELMARES children trafficking is a horrible act that sadly happens in the everyday life to many kids because they are easier targets for human traffickers , im glad that this article is kinda like spreading awareness about this to the students and whoever reads it because it ruly is important to know what is going on around us.

They say that social media has been hiding so many messed up stuff happening all around us. If you search pizza-gate you can see more of this. Some people say the celebrities we least expect has done some terrible things. It’s so sad to think about that some of them had try to warn us by giving us subliminal messages in their music videos, but then they die the next day because they have been silenced, like Avicii.
Nayeli Villagomez/ BEMARES • Feb 9, 2021 at 1:32 pm
BELMARES- its disgusting to see the world we live in. I don’t understand why people can support celebrities who are know to be pedophiles. Its messed up that at such young age to need to teach children especially girls to not talk to strangers, to not wear some type of clothes, or to be alone especially in the night, and how to protect themselves. We should talk more about this because this isn’t right. Children should be playing outside with their friends, having fun not being trafficked.
Anahi Solis, BELMARES • Feb 9, 2021 at 1:19 pm
BELMARES- This article brings awareness and was very informative as to the topic of child trafficking. I liked that they spoke on a very important subject, although the topic is a horrible thing that goes on around the world. It is so sad that things like these happen globally, and no one speaks out about it as much as they should, but I value that this article spoke about it.
ian carranza, Ms. Belmares • Feb 9, 2021 at 1:12 pm
I appreciate the fact that this topic is being brought to light. I like how you use the opinions of others towards this topic. Honestly i feel very saddened by this topic because children are vey innocent, pure human beings who didn’t come to this world to suffer and be used as an item. They deserve much better, my respects go out to those who rescue and put an end to the suffering of those children.
Erika Sarmiento-Belmares • Feb 9, 2021 at 1:09 pm
BELMARES- i appreciate the people who made this article to spread awareness that child trafficking has always been a problem but this time the people in our society should start making a change and move to stop this problem that is hurting many parents, social media platform don’t pay mind to this concern but with the hashtag going around hopefully it can make parents become more concious of their surroundings and children in order to protect them. Big companies are also known for child labor in order to get mterials for their products like makeup, clothes, appliances, etc.

This is a horrible thing that is happening around us.
The best we can do is bring attention to it in hopes that people will be more aware and more careful, which is why the #SaveOurChildren was started.
Mariela Reynaga - Belmares • Feb 9, 2021 at 1:04 pm
Great article! I haven’t heard too much about child trafficking so reading the statistics was saddening but informative. I appreciate the quotes from the staff at Morton, but also the examples of popular figures or companies being accused because it gives insight to how wide spread the problem is. The fact that 460,000 kids go missing every year in the US is very disturbing and I hope action is taken to reduce the numbers.
Isabel Trujillo Belmares • Feb 9, 2021 at 1:04 pm

This was a well written article.
I like how it brings such a real matter to the viewers attention by including things that the audience is familiar with such as celebrities and companies.
Reynaldo Camas (Ms. Belmares) • Feb 9, 2021 at 1:01 pm
(Ms. Belmares) Children trafficking is very bad in every way shape and form I liked that they were willing to write this article. I hoped that in the future instead on only focusing in the U.S they bring into light that many companies specially chocolate companies use or have used child labor in the manufacturing of the chocolate this usually happens in africa and south america where children are forced to collect cocoa beans.
Karen Marrufo, Belmares • Feb 9, 2021 at 1:00 pm
Belmares- I’m so glad there’s an article like this to speak about such horrible things. Often times I believe schools should really be spreading this information to their students, because often times no one really knows about these things. I really enjoyed reading all the information in this article, because I learned more things that I hadn’t even known before. It’s a great article, and the only advice I’d give is to fix some grammar mistakes, but other than that, I really loved how it was written. All the quotes and even the opinions of teachers from our school was great! I think this was very well-written.

Comment: I think that Human trafficking is such a big issue that a lot of people don’t talk about it especially when it comes to children.

I had seen all over Facebook the #saveourchildren and I had used it as well so it can bring awareness because it’s so sad to see young children who need to look out for themselves and as a older sibling it makes me look out for them even more to make sure that they are safe.
Anahi Fausto, Ms. Belmares • Feb 9, 2021 at 12:51 pm
First off, I wanted to say thank you for speaking about a very serious topic that sometimes isn’t brought to light enough. I really like how throughout there were quotes and sites used which were also cited. Like many I find children/ human trafficking extremely sad and I hope one day all those children can be saved from such abuse. Overall, I believe this was a great journal entry but if I could give a piece of advice it would be to look over it because for example, California was mentioned twice in a sentence.
Kiara Juarez - Ms. Belmares • Feb 9, 2021 at 9:31 am
Thank you for putting articles like these that help show and educate people of this situation. Human trafficking is vile and pure evil, and there needs to be awareness. Putting articles like this is the first step to it!
Javier Torres - BELMARES • Feb 9, 2021 at 9:28 am
BELMARES- It’s crazy to think that a grown adult would take advantage of a CHILD for their own pleasure, it truly disgusts me. It’s also really sad how corrupt the system is to the point where pedophiles ARE EVEN CONSIDERED fit for a political position. Even worse most of the time people turn a blind eye because they believe we can’t do anything about it but if we all come together we can slowly turn a new leaf for the better. Thank you so much for bringing this problem to attention and educating us more about the issue of trafficking . #SaveOurChildren
Lesly Vicuna - Ms. Belmares • Feb 9, 2021 at 9:24 am
I also agree that human child trafficking is a horrible thing. Children shouldn’t be exposed and get caught into something like this.
Not even young adults, no one.
I think they should’ve added some information about if they ever did break free and include a real life story of someone’s experience. I think it would’ve wrapped the whole article together giving us more details to understand this.
Vanessa Gutierrez/BELMARES • Feb 9, 2021 at 9:16 am
BELMARES/ I also agree that child trafficking is something really awful and somehow we should find more ways to keep children safe. Child trafficking is a subject that is not being talked about enough. This is a very important topic and it should be talked about more. Kids are not only being separated from their families but they are also being sexually abused which its the worst part because they are only kids and no one should go thru this. The fact that many celebrities have done child trafficking or have been rumored is crazy because the fact that people ignore that and that they keep supporting them when they are doing something that’s really awful. It’s more dangerous for women and girls now a days because they are the ones that are being trafficked way more. There should be more things going around for example the hashtag that was trending and going around.

People who take children or set up kids or adults to get trafficked is so wrong. – BELMARES
kiara torres BELMARES • Feb 9, 2021 at 9:09 am
BELMARES- child trafficking is terrible and needs to be put to a stop. I’ve seen a lot of videos of people bringing awareness to the subject and things like that but it still seems as if no one is really making a change to what’s happening to these poor children 🙁
Steve Arroyo - Belmares • Feb 9, 2021 at 9:06 am
Belmares – this article has made me realize the problem in the US of human trafficking and I like how many facts and surveys this article included to show the fact that human trafficking is a thing in the US.
natasha alvarez (belmares) • Feb 9, 2021 at 8:35 am
The backstory on the actual hashtag was needed because not everyone knew where it originated from. The statistics throughout the whole article made a big difference in informing us students.

“Child trafficking breaks my heart. I do not understand why people are willing to use children in various and awful ways. Children are innocent and should NEVER be forced to be exposed (pushed into) any type of trafficking,” said Morton East teacher, Mrs. Genge.
I could relate to what Mrs. Genge said cause i cant imagine what the parents are going through or even thinking when they find out their kid is being sex trafficked.
Anasofia Martinez (BELMARES) • Feb 9, 2021 at 8:31 am
I shared the #SaveOurChildren tag on twitter, because i think that it is very important to be more aware of the situation and maybe learn a few things about it. I like how the reporter added facts and statements from actual sites and awareness to the fact that some celebraties and big comapanies are maybe involved with child traffacking.
Daniel Duran • Feb 9, 2021 at 8:23 am
I think that is crazy, the government should take down the abandoned tunnels.
Jonathon Zdanwic, Belmares • Feb 9, 2021 at 8:17 am
Wow that’s messed up that this is still a problem today and that people out in the world are this messed up.
(BELMARES) Litzy Rodriguez • Feb 9, 2021 at 8:12 am
#SaveOurChildren was also an awareness for children who have been abused by their parents but this article talks about another problem within our society. I think it’s important that people understand that wether you only see this happen in movies or Tv shows it can also happen somewhere between our range. Parents need to be more aware of their kids when they go out to play alone if it’s either in front of your house or in a park. It is truly upsetting seeing parents suffer when their kids are taken to who knows where and it’s better to prevent that from happening by letting people be more aware of this situation that has been happening for years.
Belmares, Iker Pina • Feb 9, 2021 at 8:06 am
Awesome job giving us facts about their terrible topic. I agree with 100% because I don’t like the fact that children get forced to do something they don’t like.

I really appreciate the editor for spreading awareness towards child trafficking to our school. This article had an amazing way to describe the situation that is happening to this day. Since many people might not know how huge this problem has become. I really hope that we can stop child trafficking in the future, no one deserves to be treated poorly by others especially children.
Brenda Napoles, BELMARES • Feb 9, 2021 at 7:37 am
I really liked that there was an article written on Child trafficking. I feel like its a topic we need to address more consistently because it is something that happens more often than we think. I also admired that the author listed out some of the celebrities and companies that were being accused of being involved in child trafficking.
Christian Avila (belmares) • Feb 9, 2021 at 7:36 am
child labor has been a problem for so long by now , it’ll be a while till its fully eradicated
David Garcia • Feb 9, 2021 at 7:33 am
BELMARES, this article does a lot to try and make the audience aware of how important it is to look out after children so that people and family’s aren’t ruined. The sources that are used in the document are also very good for the most part when it comes to citing orginizations and specific statistics.
Jasmin Padron BELMARES • Feb 9, 2021 at 7:28 am
