Uber, Lyft: only in extreme situations, students say
October 4, 2022
The majority of students at Morton East prefer to walk or take the bus rather than to get an Uber or Lyft home.
According to Famuan Online “Uber and Lyft increasing prices affects students”, many people depend on Uber and Lyft for their transportation especially students and on campus students. In more than any other subject, Ubers charge more depending on the time of the day whether it’s a busy day and what town you are going too being unfair for students, especially college students you can live in the ugliest town and go to school in a nice community and get charged depending on the destination. Yet, students being the ones to depend on public transportation the most because they aren’t able to own a car or some schools not allowing parking for students can be difficult for those who can’t afford Ubers and Lyfts. However, in a random survey of 100 Morton East students, only 23 said they have used public transportation like Uber and Lyft.
“I would rather students take the bus or find a different way to get to school rather than get in a car with a total stranger without knowing their intentions,” security guard at Morton East, Ivan, said.
Another of Morton’s staff, dean Ms. Natalie Kozlowski, agrees with the security guard Ivan.
“I would suggest students find a different transportation other than Uber or Lyft due to having to be 18 to get in a Uber or Lyft if something happens while you’re in a Uber and have to make a police report for any reason, you can get in trouble for lying about your age or the driver can get in trouble for letting you ride in the Uber being under the age of 18,” Dean at Morton East, Ms. Natalie Kozlowski said.
Riding in an Uber doesn’t only have its cons, but also has its pros for being fast transportation.
“I only ride in Ubers or Lyfts when I have to get to practice and the bus is full or when I have to go to work,” student at Morton East, Keren Llort said.
Meanwhile another student from Morton, Brenda Karina, has other ideas.
“I would rather save my money and walk home or catch a ride with a friend, I would only get an Uber for an emergency, my mom wouldn’t trust me riding with a total stranger,” student at Morton East, Brenda Karina said.

Genge- Reading this article, with Uber being a Pro for a Student. Prices are difficult for students to afford with prices increasing a lot because of gas and time of day. Uber and Lyft is really something students used when no one is home to give them a ride to school or in general. It’s a Con as states from an Adult perspective, not knowing what the drivers intentions are.

Uber and Lyft has its pros and cons. Reading this article, Adults recommend students take either the bus or find a different way to get to school, not knowing what a random adult intentions are. Plus, you have to be 18 to be in an Uber. In other cases, Uber and Lyft is the only way for a student to get to school when no one is around to take them, and if a student needs to walk it during winter. They’re only best way is an Uber or Lyft. Its a Pro as a student but Con as a adult/parent.

Genge – i think is horrible that people cant find a way to school. some people walk, some get dropped off by their parents, and others take a bud. but not having an option to get to school is horrible.

Genge – I think it’s unfair that students have to pay higher prices to get where they need to go. Unfortunately, not everyone has the privilege of having multiple transportation options, so this may be the only option for some people.

Genge- My personal thoughts is that using an Uber or Lyft can be dangerous and its not economically beneficial. Getting into a car with a stranger where they take you to your home is dangerous because of the student either being a minor or vulnerable against an adult. As well as it being dangerous it is also costly to take the Uber every day as a source of transportation.

Genge. I feel like uber/lyfts are really over charged there quite expensive but in the other hand uber/lyft drivers also need the money they may be some days when they get no people to ride with them and that may affect them. But I also think rules are rules and if the article said you have to be 18 to get in an Uber/Lyft to protect yourself and the driver then you must follow them.

I personally use uber to travel when going out and hanging out so it’s interesting to know that others don’t use apps like Lyft or Uber often. I enjoy the quotes used by people who have a good view of this issue. I think you can go more into detail about the potential dangers of using these transportation apps instead of just saying there are pros and cons.

I really like the quotes, they fit in really good with the story.
I like the background.
I feel like a couple more quotes would make the story better.
