Love is an emotion that has been expressed for numerous centuries, it’s very definition would always remain in question, but our understanding of the evolution of love has advanced.
During the 1960s, researchers began to investigate the psychology behind love. People don’t fully comprehend the notion of love, and they have many concerns about how love affects us, love languages, whether love is blind, and whether self-love is more important than loving others. This is the reason why it is essential to understand how love operates and how it influences a person’s psyche.
According to Harvard medical school, “Being love-struck releases high levels of dopamine, that activates the reward circuit, helping to make love a pleasurable experience similar to the euphoria associated with use of cocaine or alcohol.”
There are five fundamental love languages that are known, they include acts of service, physical touch, quality time, receiving gifts, and words of affirmation. Knowing which one you or loved ones prefer can better your relationships.
“My personal love language is physical touch, I love receiving and giving affection, it makes me feel closer to my significant other,” Senior, Jimena Betancourt, said.
Although the expression “Love is blind” has been used for a very long time, is it actually accurate?
According to Harvard medical school, “When we are engaged in romantic love, the neural machinery responsible for making critical assessments of other people, including assessments of those with whom we are romantically involved, shuts down. ‘That’s the neural basis for the ancient wisdom ‘love is blind,’” researcher Richard Schwartz said.
When it comes to maintaining your mental health and loving the people around you, self-love is crucial.
“I believe in order to love others you have to have some sort of self-love first, if this is not the case this would stem into a bigger issue,” Mother, Ageda Pelayo, said.
“There is a thin line between love and hate,” is a saying that is frequently used when discussing love. Love is an emotion that people expect to be a beautiful feeling, but it is also capable of turning into hurt or anger.
According to Regain Editorial, “People may experience this sudden, extreme shift when the person they love hurts them deeply or betrays them in some way, causing the emotions to swing quickly. If you have such strong feelings towards someone, these feelings can swing in the opposite direction once something makes those feelings come crashing down.”
Love is something that is expressed in every culture, it’s a universal sensation that people experience and express in a variety of different ways.
“Love could be found anywhere and everywhere in more ways than could be explained, it could be a simple glance between a couple, to an owner’s love for their pet, the fact that everyone does it in their own way is genuinely so sweet,” Betancourt said.
