Most students will spend more than $100 on Christmas gifts this year.
Most adults spend the average of $1,000 towards the holidays. According to chat gpt, “The national retail federation (NFR) conducts an annual survey that estimates the average holiday spending per person. In recent years, this average has often been around $800 to $1,000. Despite budgeting efforts, a significant number of individuals accumulate debt during the holiday season. Many people take on seasonal or temporary jobs during the holiday season to earn extra income for gift purchases and other holiday expenses.” According to exploding topics Americans spend well over $200 a year on non-gift items. In a random survey of 100 Morton East students, 83 students reported to spend more than $100 on Christmas gifts alone.
“I spent a total of $711.46 on Christmas presents for my family and my girlfriend this year, the max I would spend on a single person is $573,” said senior Sebastian Cruz.
However, not everyone is as excited and happy about the amount of money they’ve spent. Some believe that prices are too high this year.
“The economy is high, and now a days there is nothing someone can cherish that is lower than 50 dollars,” said junior Salvador Viramontes.
Some if not most students depend on their parents to help them pay for Christmas gifts.
“With what I’ve worked I believe I might have enough to buy some Christmas presents, but if I didn’t have my mom to depend on financially, I wouldn’t be able to buy Christmas presents,” said senior Ely Diaz.
Although some students depend on their parents financially, others have part-time jobs to help them with holiday costs and Christmas presents.
“I don’t get any allowance or money from my parents, I have a part time job, and that’s where I get the money to pay for Christmas presents,” said junior Julissa Diaz.
Even if Christmas presents are expensive, people still find a way to buy their family a present.
“Me and boyfriend talked about budgets for each other’s gifts since we both don’t have a ton of extra money to spend. He really wanted a ring, but since it was pretty expensive I told him that it would be his only gift and he was okay with that. But I did end up buying a few more small things for him!” said Morton East teacher Ms. Couch.

Christmas this year has been challenging due to prices rising, and everything being more expensive but it will still be a good Christmas.
