Bernie Sanders saying, “I am once asking….” was the best meme of last year for Morton East students.

In a random survey of the best meme of 2020, Morton East’s students and Cicero residents, 49, said, Bernie Sanders, saying, “I am once asking….” was the best meme. According to Boiling space, historically, “Meme” is derived from the ancient Greek word “mimema”, which means “something imitated”. At the time, Baby Cha-Cha-Cha, also known as Dancing Baby, was the first meme to go viral on the internet.

“I would say 30min- 60 min total. Which is about the same amount of time I spend on social media throughout the day. Social media, especially Instagram, “English Teacher Angelica Samata said.

Draw 25 came in second place with 29 votes. It was one of the first memes that came into 2020 on January 4 and went viral on January 6.

“I was surprised that the Draw 25 was not the winner, I feel like it should have won by a lot, but everyone has different humor,” Sophomore Christopher Hernandez said.

The Mike pence fly came in 3rd place with 20 votes. On Oct. 7, during the vice-presidential debate between Vice President Mike Pence and Sen. Kamala Harris, a fly landed on Pence’s head — and it stayed there for about two minutes.

“I’m not even sure how the mike pence fly got third place. It was not as funny as the other memes in this list and not even sure how it became a meme,” Cicero resident Jayden Hernandez said.

The Dancing Pallbearers (dancing coffin) received the fewest votes. Although the video first graced the internet in the mid-2010s, it got attention in early 2020.

“I was surprising the Dancing Pallbearers came in last with 19 votes, it should have been at least 2nd place,” Junior Bryan Sanchez said.
